Shout!

So once again, come follow me
To my grave, a distant family
Shout our bruises, and shout the words
Is your saving grace, saving grace in vain?
I'm safe from the wreckage, my memory's feels torn
This place just feels too far from home
And I'm safe from the wreckage, my mind was saved
It's too hard to see below

Whispers and ashes, behold
Whispers and ashes, hold on!
Whoo!

With my mistakes, that comfort me
Mysteries lead the blind, guessing to explain
While I'm, safe from the wreckage, my memory's torn
On what is worth fighting for
And I'm safe from the wreckage, I don't feel safe anymore
Just floating above the earth, alone

Whispers and ashes, behold
Whispers and ashes,
Frown over your pretty little lies, beneath and
See, I said I'll see

Can you see through me as dust just settles on
Whispers and ashes,
I reach for the ceiling, to the sky above
How am I still living?

Safe from the wreckage, I remember everything
All the freedom to follow,
Stay faithful to me
Keep your words calm, I will never forget
I will be just fine, oh, oh,
I'll be just fine, oh, oh,
I'll be just fine, oh, oh,
I'll be just fine, oh, oh, whoa.

Whispers & Ashes Empty Song's backstory

Post by Blue Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:41 am

Emily said in January, 2013 in Face to Face Fridays (9:21 - 11:05):

I think it's the most interesting written song on the record and it's basically from this article that I read about a plane crash that happened 40 years ago and it's about a sole survivor and the story just goes into the whole how did she survive on this. It was in the Amazon where the plane crashed and her mother-in-law had died and um... Long story short, she had to find civilization through the Amazon, walking through the waters, where she was found by some loggers and it just really hit me, just like you know... They were asking the question 'How did she survive that?' and I don't know, for some reason it made sense and at that time it really hit me hard. A few days later we started jamming to this riff of 'Whispers & Ashes' and the title of the song before that was 'Swamp' and it just had this feeling of that and it really provoked those lyrics and I literally just started writing to it and it made perfect sense with the music and the story that I had. It was extremely inspiring to me... and 'Whispers & Ashes' came along.

It really is an interesting and heartbreaking story. For anyone interested in it, look up Juliane Koepcke. There is also a movie about the story called Wings of Hope (2000).
